Permissions in Evergreen are structured hierarchically. They are a complex combination of a particular permission, a specific location, and the depth from the User Home Library.
In SELCO Users fall into two categories; Staff who work at libraries and use the staff interface of Evergreen, and Patrons who use the discovery layer. Patrons have a barcode as login, where as staff have first initial and last name plus their staff permission group for a login.
More information regarding Patron Permission groups can be found in the Circ/RSS guidelines.
Staff Permission groups are set up hierarchically with inherited permissions from their ancestor. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that each staff member has the permissions needed to perform their job—no more, no less—and that they receive the necessary training to use those permissions appropriately. Because each Evergreen library in the SELCO region has different workflows, staffing, and expectations, this is an ongoing process that may require adjustments over time.
Staff logins are currently at the circ or circ manager level, with appropriate cataloging permissions added in the user staff record Secondary Permissions section.
SELCO Resource Sharing staff also need to evaluate the regional impact of adding or changing specific permissions before they are assigned to a new or existing permission group.
To assist, we have provided a breakdown of current Staff Permission Groups and the specific permissions they contain.
