Home Location is the branch the patron uses most frequently. It controls:
Default Pickup Location
Which library can edit/update the record
Age Hold Protection
Request abilities for special collections
Notice language
Lists as Home Location for residents living in a County on County Funding Reports.
In combination with other factors: Loan periods, Fine rates and other financial transactions, as well as other Circulation/Hold Policies.
Some patrons use multiple libraries and can have more than one Home Library. When this situation occurs the library staff are expected to communicate with each other, and the patron to determine how to proceed.
The funding source is located at the bottom of the User Record in the Statistical Categories section. The funding source is where the patron pays their Minnesota property tax to in support of library services, as defined under Minnesota State Statue 134.07. The SELCO region has 37 cities and 11 counties that fund library services via property tax.
Select the appropriate City- Statistical Class when the User rents or owns property in the City Limits of one of the 37 listed.
Select the appropriate County- Statistical Class when the User resides outside the limits of one of the 37 cities, but within one of the 11 listed counties. Be careful relying on mailing addresses for county residents.
Select Other Funding Source when the User:
Resides outside of Minnesota (i.e. Wisconsin or Iowa)
Resides outside of the 11 County SELCO region but in Minnesota
Typically each year libraries run a report based on Funding Source that indicates the number of circulations for each code and Home Library combination. Counties with multiple libraries use these numbers to divide up funding from their county, and to show the county or city stakeholders their usage.
