Preparing for ILS migration

We wanted to answer the question of what you can be doing now to prepare for the migration. So, we’ve identified four things to help smooth the transition at your library: Tech & ILS Competencies, documenting your workflows, running clean up reports, and considering weeding your collection.

 Tech & ILS Competencies

Please make sure your staff can do all the things found on checklists below, if a staff member struggles with a mouse or a keyboard, or doesn't understand the difference between an item and a bib then now is the time to fix this, not while you and your staff are all stressed out learning new software with patrons in front of you.

Documenting your Workflows

Document your workflows, even some handwritten notes will help.  Here are some examples from your colleagues!

Run clean up reports

Start cleaning up your data, clean up your borrowers and items by running reports on the sheet below and working through them ... For example all Public library borrowers should have 1 ci or co bstat, are your borrower barcodes cleaned up? What about your item status? Stay on top of these reports over the next year.

Weeding your Collection

Consider weeding your collection. Consider inventorying after weeding. Think of it like moving to a new house. Go through your closet and clean out what you don't want to move.
