Evergreen is structured in hierarchy of Organization Units (org unit).
The top hierarchy is the consortium level, SELCO in our region. Some settings in Evergreen are controlled at the Consortium Level and are inherited by the next level(s) of org units.
The second level is the System Level. The system level, or -SYS code is used to control settings among multiple physical locations. Some settings in Evergreen are controlled at the System Level.
The third level is the Short Code, this is the physical location. It is often called Branch Level. The Short Code is the three letter code before -SYS.
In SELCO's Evergreen setup, System levels do not have items or borrowers, therefore typically you are using the Short Code for reports or day to day actions. Some settings can be controlled at branch level.
For more information on Organizational Units see the official documentation.
Depth
Some settings in Evergreen, in particular Age Hold Protection, use the concept of Depth to determine if certain actions or behaviors are allowed by patrons or locations. Depth controls how far down the hierarchy something is allowed or not allowed by assigning numerical values to the Consortium, System and Branch level.
